Waiting Time for Adoption of Children from China

The time will typically vary from 18-36 months or longer. Usually, the biggest factor influencing the wait for a child will be the time it takes the CCAA to make a referral to a family. The current referral time is approximately eight (8) months after dossiers are submitted to China and registered with the CCAA. China offers a special Expedited Referral Service, which allows parents to receive referrals in a shorter amount of time if the adopting family is interested in adopting a child with severe special needs or if one or both parents were born in China, Hong Kong, or Taiwan.
